That was just the first 10 days Perth to Broome. Now you will start The Kimberley part of your Western Australia journey for 8 days 4WD adventuring. You will see all the sights of the West and East Kimberley along the Gibb River Road, 2 nights at El Questro Station, The Bungle Bungles, and Lake Argyle all the way to Darwin!
We include a scenic flight on Day 17 of your tour over the Bungle Bungles on your Perth to Darwin adventure tour. Experience Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungle by air and then by ground to appreciate the vast, rugged beauty of this World Heritage-listed national park. You will learn about this World Heritage listed area to the traditional owners, take a one-hour scenic flight from Kununurra in an air-conditioned, high wing airplane flying over the Ord Irrigation Area, the Ord Top Dam wall, Lake Kununurra and the full expanse of Lake Argyle. View the Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmand Ranges, the Ord River and the Bow River. Land at a remote unsealed airfield in the Purnululu National Park and transfer to an air-conditioned 4WD bus, your guide will drive you closer to the Bungle Bungle Range. Enjoy a moderate 3km guided walk amongst the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded beehive structures on the Domes Walk. Your guide will take you into Cathedral Gorge, where towering cliffs open up to form a space with awe-inspiring natural acoustics, here you will rest and enjoy your lunch. Walk along the bed of Piccaninny Creek, which flows only in the monsoon waterfall season. Learn about the Kimberley climate, the six seasons and unique flora and fauna so important to the traditional custodians of the land. Return via a scenic flight to Kununurra, on the way viewing the Argyle Diamond Mine where rare pink diamonds are mined.

On the Kimberley Broome to Darwin section of this tour, you will sleep in a swag. A swag is a bedroll made of canvas with a mattress inside. You can put your sleeping bag inside and zip it up and have a perfect view of the stars.

Perth to Darwin Itinerary - 19 days
Perth to Kalbarri
Our first stop today is to head north to the impressive Pinnacles Desert in Nambung National Park. We enjoy a fully guided tour through these amazing limestone formations and drop in at the Discovery Centre before we have lunch by the sea. After a sightseeing stop in the town of Geraldton it’s on to Big River Ranch in Kalbarri National Park for some true blue Aussie hospitality and our overnight stay. (L,D)
Kalbarri to Shark Bay
Today we visit the marvels of Murchison Gorge, Nature’s Window and Z-Bend Gorge in Kalbarri National Park. Here you have the option to try abseiling (additional expense). Cool off with a swim in the Murchison River before we’re back on the bus and traveling north to Shark Bay. You will enjoy a visit to the famous Shell Beach and finish your day with a sunset and stay at Denham at Bay Lodge. (B,L,D)
Monkey Mia to Coral Bay
This morning you will head out to the beach early to see the the famous Monkey Mia dolphins come in for feeding. Then join an optional sea kayak (own expense) or just chill out on the beach or at the resort. We visit the oldest live rock formations in Australia, the ‘Stromatolites’ before we settle into our accommodation in Coral Bay, located right on the famous Ningaloo Reef. (B,L,D)
Today enjoy free time to experience the many great tours and activities Coral Bay has to offer, with special discounts available. Go for a stroll on the beach and check out the shark nursery, swim with the Manta Rays or go for a snorkel on the Ningaloo Reef only meters from shore (all optional and at additional expense).
This evening we take the short drive up the peninsula to Exmouth and check in to our accommodation for two nights in the town center. (B,D)
Today is yours to join any of the optional activities available including snorkeling with the friendly giants of the sea, the whale sharks (seasonal) or enjoying a fully guided tour of Cape Range National Park, a spectacular place of rugged limestone ranges, breathtaking deep canyons and 50km of pristine beaches. Experience guided snorkeling trips (snorkel hire $10) including the stunning Turquoise Bay, Vlamingh Head Lighthouse and lookout, Milyearing Visitors Centre and more before we return to our accommodation in Exmouth at the end of the day. Exmouth to Karijini National Park
Up early we travel east through station country and stop at Tom Price, the highest town in Western Australia. Here we get our supplies before we head to the amazing Karijini National Park. We stay at the multi award winning Karijini Eco Retreat in deluxe safari eco tents with your own veranda, quality beds, linen and hot showers. (B,L,D)
Day 7 and 8
Karijini National Park
The next two days give us plenty of time to explore Karijini National Park and to enjoy 2.5 billion years of evolution and 40,000 years of culture. We visit and hike many of the gorges, swim in amazing rock pools, stand under waterfalls and explore intriguing rock formations including Hancock Gorge, Weano Gorge and its adventurous Handrail Pool, Dales Gorge, Circular Pool, Fortescue Falls, Fern Pool and more. Late on day eight we travel further north to Pardoo Roadhouse and check in to our large comfortable tents (or swag if you choose) for a night of camping. Pardoo Roadhouse to Broome
This morning sees us arrive at 80 Mile Beach for some stunning photos. Upon arrival in Broome your guide will take you for a tour around town before checking in at your hostel accommodation (in dorm or private rooms) where you will spend three nights enjoying this tropical township. (B,L)
Day 10 and 11
Enjoy two free days in Broome to explore some of the many attractions on offer including a sunset camel ride along Cable Beach, sea kayaking to look for sea turtles, a day trip to Cape Leveque or lazing about the pool at your accommodation. Accommodation included but meals and activities are at own expense.
Broome to Silent Grove
Today you begin your journey into the wild and remote Australian wilderness where you will experience a fantastic combination of adventure, wildlife and tranquillity.
Departing Broome early we head east towards the Gibb River Road and arrive at Windjana Gorge in the Napier Ranges for lunch.
Nearly 660 kilometres long, the Gibb River Road is a former cattle route and one of the country’s most adventurous roads for four-wheel-driving.
After lunch we explore the gorge to view the native birds and resident freshwater crocodiles. During your trip in the Kimberley you will have the chance to view many bird species including the rare Gouldian finches as well as many saltwater and freshwater crocodiles.
In the afternoon we explore Tunnel Creek – an ancient reef system which is said to have existed 350 million years ago – before heading to Silent Grove for our first night at our campsite under the stars. (L, D)
Silent Grove to Mt Elizabeth
Enjoy waking up to the wilderness so very far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Today you will explore more of the region’s gorges including Bell, Galvans and Manning. The water levels at the time of your journey will determine which gorges you visit however each are unique and special in their own right.
Bell Gorge, the region’s most popular, is perfect for swimming whether you choose the deep plunge pool at the bottom of the falls or go exploring to other smaller falls and pools down or upstream.
Galvans Gorge is a beautiful deep green pool with a perfect waterfall to shower under or sit back and admire the view from the grassy edges.
Manning Gorge is well known for its Aboriginal rock art which you can explore before taking a refreshing swim.
After a day of walking and swimming in these magnificent natural attractions we travel to our overnight location of Mount Elizabeth Station. Here you may choose between cabins or camping. (B, L, D)
Mt Elizabeth to El Questro
Heading further east we explore, swim and hike this amazing part of the world. Visit the beautiful Emma Gorge before arriving at El Questro for our first of two nights in this outback oasis. (B, L, D)
You will have the entire day today to discover some of the one million acres of the El Questro Wilderness Park, a functioning cattle station and one of the biggest in Australia.
Soak in Zebedee Springs a soothing natural thermal pool.
Weather depending, and only for the brave and energetic, you can visit El Questro Gorge to swim while the sun rays peek through the crevices of the rock above. A challenging walk over slippery rocks and sometimes through water, visiting this Gorge is not for the faint-hearted.
You will have the opportunity to continue your exploration through the optional activities on offer including barramundi fishing, horse riding and a boat cruise.
Every true explorer needs rehydration so why not end the day with a cold beverage at the Swinging Arm Bar before retiring to your room or tent for the night. (B, L, D)
El Questro to Lake Argyle via Kununurra
Wake up in glorious El Questro for the second time then enjoy a short drive and morning hike to the refreshing Emma Gorge. Back on the road, we head towards the Hoochery distillery, the oldest continuously operating distillery in Western Australia. Here you will have the opportunity to taste test the famous Ord River Rum (optional). We will then continue through to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake for a spot of lunch and set up camp. After lunch, you will have the option to experience an afternoon on the water with a sunset cruise on the lake (optional) before dinner and a much-deserved sleep before exciting day 6! (B, L, D)
Lake Argyle to Purnululu National Park and Return to Kununurra
This morning we drive from Lake Argyle, into Kununurra ready to jump on an aircraft. For this leg of the tour, Aussie Wanderer has partnered up with AVIAIR to create a once in a lifetime opportunity. From here, we begin the Bungle Bungle Wanderer Tour! Definitely a bucket list moment! The tour begins with a one-hour scenic flight over Lake Argyle, Lake Kununurra, the Ord and Bow Rivers, the Carr Boyd and Osmond Ranges and a first look at the Bungle Bungles from the sky! Once landed at the remote Purnululu National Park airfield we’ll begin the land-based part of the tour, including a walk amongst the incredible contrasted beehive structures of the Bungle Bungles and a visit to the breathtaking Cathedral Gorge whilst learning about the cultural significance of the area. This amazing adventure will end with a return scenic flight over the Argyle Diamond Mine finishing up at the Hidden Valley Caravan Park in Kununurra for the night. (B, L, D)
Kununurra to Katherine
This morning we farewell those that are returning to Broome and start making our way to Victoria River Roadhouse where we will do the escarpment walk and have lunch. Then we will head towards Katherine and visit their crystal clear hot springs, arriving at our accommodation in the late afternoon at Knotts Crossing Resort for dinner and a swim in the resort pool. Katherine to Darwin
Our final day sees us visit one of the Northern Territory’s most stunning areas, Litchfield National Park. On our way, we will stop for lunch at the ethereal Butterfly Farm before progressing further to experience the fascinating Magnetic Termite Mounds, Florence Falls, and Buley Rockhole before arriving in Darwin in the early evening. Important NotesThings you need to know about this tour
- Upgrade options must be booked at least 6 weeks in advance and are subject to upgrade accommodation is available at the time of booking. Single upgrades will share a twin-share tent during the camping nights.
- All campsites include toilets but not all have showers and running water. Swags are supplied, tents will be supplied upon request.
- Upgrades from camping to accommodation in the Kimberley take place at Mt Elizabeth Homestead, El Questro (2 nights) and Lake Argyle (4 nights total).
- Upgraded rooms from Perth to Exmouth, Pardoo Roadhouse, Mt Elizabeth and Lake Argyle have shared bathroom facilities.
- No suitcases are allowed between Broome and Darwin. Soft bags or backpacks only will be excepted with a maximum weight of 15 kg and a small carry-on bag. If you wish to forward a suitcase or any excess luggage, the Greyhound offers a daily service Broome <> Darwin. Customers can drop their luggage off at the Broome Visitor Centre the day before their tour departure, Greyhound will then drop their bags off at the Darwin Visitor Centre for them to pick it up and vice versa. Prices vary per sizing but as an example: A bag sized 60 x 45 x 25 is $55 to go from Broome to Darwin.
- The included flight is aboard a 12-seat air-conditioned, high wing airplane offering safety, comfort and spectacular viewing opportunities.
- An exclusion of liability form is to be signed prior to departure.
- Departures early and late in the season are subject to road and weather conditions permitting.

- Please advise us of any medical or mobility issues prior to booking. The Kimberley region can be extremely hot with high humidity, yet cool in the evenings. We ask that you prepare yourself for hot conditions and drink plenty of water. This is a soft adventure tour and participants must be of a reasonable fitness to participate, being able to easily walk up to 6 kilometers per day, sometimes on uneven terrain. The tour is participatory and everyone is required to help out with simple tasks such as preparing food or washing up from time.
- Meals are indicated with B, L and D- for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. We can cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free and lactose intolerant passengers. Please understand we are on a camping tour so the food you may usually have may not be readily available. Please contact us at the time of booking if you have any specific dietary needs.
