All about the 13 Day Adelaide To Darwin Tour Package including Uluru and Kakadu

On this Adelaide to Darwin tour, you will start in Adelaide heading north through the Clare Valley wine region and towards the spectacular Flinders Ranges.

After time hiking in the Flinders Ranges, you will venture to the underground town of Coober Pedy. Here you can pan for Opals and stay in our famous underground hostel. Once you get to the Red Centre its time to explore Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon afterward spending some time in Alice Springs. You will then head even further North through Australia's Northern Territory with stops at the Devils Marbles, Mataranka Thermal Pools and more. Then it's time to get tropical in Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, by spending a few days exploring the parks and swimming in the waterfalls and streams. Finishing in Darwin with a bunch of new friends.

Our tour walking and hiking in Kakadu National Park, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon requires a good level of fitness.

Kakadu National Park: Good level of fitness is required for Gunlom Falls and Jim Jim Falls
Uluru: Moderate level of fitness required. The base walk is on flat ground.
Kata Tjuta: Good level of fitness required. Walking on uneven surface required to complete the Valley of the Winds walk
Kings Canyon: Good level of fitness required for the four-hour walk around the canyon’s rim.

13 Day Adelaide To Darwin Tour Package including Uluru and Kakadu Itinerary - 13 days

  • Day 1 Adelaide to Quorn
    You start your adventure travelling through the vineyards of the Clare Valley wine region, but soon enough you will see the rugged Outback through the historic town of Melrose, gateway to the Flinders Ranges. You can then enjoy an easy stroll through the awesome Alligator Gorge, which is sometimes bursting with wild flowers. Tonight you will stay in the heart of the Southern Flinders Ranges. (LD)
  • Day 2 Quorn to Coober Pedy
    After an early start you will drive the open outback road to Coober Pedy, where most of the world’s supply of beautiful opals comes from. The landscape here is like you’ve landed on Mars. Enjoy a tour of an opal mine and there’s time to view the underground attractions of Coober Pedy.

    After a visit to Josephine’s Kangaroo Orphanage and dinner you will sleep underground like the locals do in accommodation. (BLD)
  • Day 3 Coober Pedy to Uluru
    It’s a big day driving up the Stuart Highway, with several pit stops en route. Our mission today is to reach Uluru –nothing will prepare you for the sight of The Rock. We quickly set up camp before learning about the local Aboriginal History at the Uluru Kata Tjuta Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Soon after we’ll be experiencing our first awe-inspiring Uluru sunset, taking time to absorb the beauty and majesty of this place.(BLD)
  • Day 4 Uluru
    Today you have a full day to spend around Uluru to do a walk around the base of Uluru and time to learn about the local Aboriginal people at the Cultural Centre. The Uluru Base walk should take around 3 to 4 hours. Learn more about Aboriginal interpretations from your Culturally Accredited tour guide.

    Lunch is prepared back at the campground and you will have the rest of the day to enjoy the timeless wonder of Uluru. Enjoy another Uluru sunset before relaxing around the campfire for a night under the stars in your swag.(BLD)
  • Day 5 Uluru and Kata Tjuta to Kings Canyon Resort
    Breakfast today is at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). Walk the majestic Valley of the Winds which cuts through the uniquely domed rock formations.

    The hikes here can be challenging at times, with steep sections and duration of about 3 or 4 hours After a tasty lunch, we get back on the bus for a drive to Kings Canyon Resort and our overnight stop. Optional extra activities (Camel Safaris, Helicopter Flights and Quad Bike Safaris) are available at Kings Creek Station. (BLD)
  • Day 6 Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
    Enjoy the walk around the rim of Watarrka (Kings Canyon) to access the lookout points and enjoy the views of the gorge, sandstone walls and the immense size of the canyon. You will get to see the renowned water hole known as the Garden of Eden. After our final lunch the final destination is Alice Springs where you will arrive at approximately 6:30pm. Overnight accommodation in Alice Springs is included. (BL)
  • Day 7 Alice Springs
    Day of leisure to either relax or explore the Red Centre township of Alice Springs. All activities and meals are at your own expense. Accommodation is included.
  • Day 8 Alice Springs to Banka Banka Station
    Your adventure through the ‘Territory’ to Darwin begins by crossing the Tropic of Capricorn just north of Alice Springs. The huge granite boulders known as the Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu) make for great photos. Tonight you will camp north of Tennant Creek at historic Banka Banka Cattle Station. (LD)
  • Day 9 Banka Banka to Mataranka
    On the drive up the Stuart Highway, the Daly Waters Pub is a great spot to take a break and have a cold beer. Historically, it has been an important watering hole for explorers and cattle drovers. Have a soak in the Mataranka Thermal Pools, a lush oasis fringed by paperbark trees, before driving to our Katherine camp where will stay overnight. (BLD)
  • Day 10 Katherine to Darwin
    It’s an early start this morning in Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park which is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people. Ancient sandstone has been carved away by the Katherine River to create a deep and picturesque gorge.

    You may like to take a boat cruise or paddle a canoe (seasonal) through the peaceful water (both optional and additional cost).

    In the afternoon, relax and watch the changing landscape as you travel to cosmopolitan Darwin. Overnight dorm accommodation is included. (BL)
  • Day 11 Darwin to Kakadu National Park
    The first stop on your adventure is the Mary River Wetlands which are renowned for the 250 bird species that can be found here and the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the Southern Hemisphere. To get the best understanding of the area you will take an informative cruise (included) along the Mary River where you can spot ‘crocs’ and other wildlife. Your introduction to Kakadu National Park is at the South Alligator River where you will also have lunch. The Bowali Visitor Centre is a good place to purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts before your late afternoon arrival at Ubirr. At Ubirr you can view a wide range of Aboriginal rock art which will be interpreted by your guide. Here you will learn about the Rainbow Serpent and climb the Nadab Lookout for excellent views over the surrounding floodplain and beyond into Arnhem Land. Tonight enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at a private campsite at Cooinda. (LD)
  • Day 12 Kakadu National Park
    This morning the jewels of Kakadu National Park await. After breakfast and departing camp we travel off road to the majestic Twin and Jim Jim Falls* for a day of adventure and exploration. Travelling into Twin Falls by 4WD track, a boat shuttle and finally a rocky track and boardwalk we will be rewarded by the beauty of this remote waterfall deep within Kakadu National Park.

    Afterwards we stay off the beaten track where a walk through monsoon forests and over boulders lead us to Jim Jim Falls. Surrounded by 150 metre cliffs, we spend some time soaking up the natural beauty of this majestic location.

    This afternoon we depart Kakadu National Park and travel towards Litchfield National Park where we will stop along the way at our private campsite. Tonight, enjoy a hearty meal with your fellow adventurers. (B,L,D)
  • Day 13 Litchfield National Park to Darwin
    Today is spent exploring the waterfalls, spring-fed streams and rugged sandstone escarpments of Litchfield National Park. Marvel at the intriguing magnetic and cathedral termite mounds and swim, hike and explore Florence and Wangi Falls*.

    Discover the many rock holes and cascading waterfalls of Buley Rockhole before our early evening arrival back in Darwin. (B,L)

Things you need to know about this tour
  • This package is a combination of safari products and therefore the guide and passengers will differ during each section. Passengers will be staying independently at the accommodation (included) between each of the safaris.
  • During the wet season Gunlom Falls may not be accessible and during this time we will visit the Yurmikmik region (either Motor Car Falls or Boulder Creek)
  • Camping/dorm customers will spend 5 nights in a dorm, 3 nights camping in swags only, 2 nights in permanent safari tents and 2 nights in swags and pop-up tents. Camping/twin/double/single customers will spend 5 nights in a private room (4 nights private facilities, 1 night shared facilities), 4 nights camping in swags and dome tents and 3 nights in a permanent safari tent (shared facilities)
  • Twin/double fare can only be booked by two people traveling together.
  • Single passengers will share a tent with another passenger of the same gender on the last four camping nights
  • Twin/double/single passengers will need to pay a $30 payment for a sleeping bag to hire directly to their guide on departure. in Alice Springs. Dorm customers will be required to pay the fee to their guide in Adelaide. Passengers are permitted to bring their own sleeping bags. Please specify this at the time of booking.
  • Passengers are required to pay Kakadu and Kata Tjuta and Uluru National Park fees to their guide on departure. 
  • Ideal for those 18- 39 years old, we do except those older and families on a case by case basis, so please let us know when booking.
  • We can cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten-free and lactose intolerant passengers. Please understand we are on a camping tour so the food you may usually have may not be readily available. Please contact us when booking if you have any specific dietary needs.
