3 Day Fraser Island 4WD Tag-Along Camping Tour
Tour itinerary - 3 Days
Rainbow Beach to Fraser Island
Meet at Frasers on Rainbow at 7.00am and feel the excitement on the morning of departure from your group of fellow adventurers as you gear up and learn more about your 4WD vehicles and equipment at the morning safety briefing. You will be split into groups to briefly work together checking off all your food, and ensuring it is all there for your trip. Another check of overall equipment then it’s time to jump into your 4x4s to take off to Fraser Island for an action-packed experience of a lifetime!
The itinerary may change slightly depending on tide times and conditions but you will without a doubt be visiting the most stunning, crystal clear lakes, rainforest areas and best swimming locations on with World Heritage island.
On this first morning, you will travel for 10 minutes from Inskip Point (a 15 minute drive from the hostel departure point) on the Rainbow Beach Fraser Island barge across to land on the Southern end of 75-mile beach on Fraser Island. Get used to driving your 4WD vehicle in the sand as you make your way North up 75-mile beach and visit some of the most famous sites on the island today including the history of the Maheno shipwreck, a soak in the waters of Eli Creek and a hike and swim at Lake Wabby.
All designated drivers will take turns driving 4x4's along the beach to these world-class destinations, and in the evening you will head to your permanent campsite, all arranged with permanently erected tents (twin share) and rain covers, hot showers and flushing toilets. The campsite located literally metres away from the main beach is private for all our groups and is managed in conjunction between ourselves and the traditional owners of Fraser Island, the Kgari Aboriginal people.
Enjoy cooking and entertainment with the guide and group that evening after an exciting first day. (L, D)
Today we have a full day to drive away from the beaches and into the inland roads on the Island. Here you will travel to “Central Station” and “explore beautiful heritage protected rainforests” where short walks take you through world heritage rainforest plant species and over suspension bridges and walkways.
The whole afternoon will be spent at the most iconic destination on the island, Lake Mackenzie. Swim in the crystal clear waters of the stunning Lake McKenzie and laze around on this amazing white silica-sand beach.
After a relaxing and fun day, it is time to return to your camp in the afternoon to enjoy a beer with your fellow travellers and to again sleep beneath the stars in your own private, exclusive campsite, just metres from the beach. There will be stories as you all relax by the campfire with a drink and evening meal in serene nature, what more could you want? (B, L, D)
Fraser Island to Rainbow Beach
Our third and final day sees us visit the Northern end of the Island. There will be a stop off for a refreshing swim in the Champagne Pools where the group will relax as the waves crash over the rocks, and then a short hike to Indian Head to take in spectacular 360-degree views of the island. Here you will often spot turtles, migrating humpback whales and if you are lucky enough you might just see one of the many shark species cruising along in the waters below in search of a school of fish. We strongly recommend that our guests do not swim off the beaches on Fraser Island due to strong currents and frequency of large sharks.
After three days exploring this magical island’s lakes, creeks and rainforests, you will return back to Rainbow Beach approximately 3:30-4.00pm (or may be later due to tide times) for a farewell (dinner) with your fellow adventurers and Fraser Island trip of a lifetime! (BL)
