10 Day Darwin To Alice Springs Crocodile Rock Tour Package Itinerary - 10 days

  • Day 1 Darwin to Kakadu National Park
Pick up from your Darwin accommodation at approximately 6.30am where our Northern Territory adventure begins as we travel to the Mary River Wetlands for our cruise. This region is home to over 250 bird species and has the highest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the Southern Hemisphere. Search for the mighty crocs who rule this waterway, buffalo, birds and other wildlife.

Our entrance to Kakadu National Park is at the South Alligator River, a picturesque location for a picnic lunch. There’s the opportunity to purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts at the Bowali Visitor Centre before our late afternoon arrival at Ubirr. Here you will view a wide range of ancient Aboriginal art which will be interpreted by your guide. Learn the story of the Rainbow Serpent and climb the Nadab Lookout for panoramic views over the floodplain and beyond into Arnhem Land. As the day draws to a close we head to our private campsite at Cooinda for dinner and our overnight stay. (LD)
  • Day 2 Kakadu National Park to Litchfield National Park
Today we explore two of the most popular jewels of Kakadu National Park, the big waterfalls of Twin & Jim Jim, only accessible by four-wheel-drive. To reach Twin Falls we travel over 4WD track and then take a boat shuttle (extra cost as part of your compulsory local payments) followed by a rocky walking track and boardwalk - but it's all worth the effort as we explore this remote waterfall of Kakadu. We then travel through monsoon forests and over boulders to get to Jim Jim Falls, surrounded by 150-metre cliffs. After an awe-inspiring day, we bid farewell to Kakadu and make our way to our private campsite near Litchfield National Park for the night. (B,L,D)
  • Day 3 Litchfield National Park to Darwin
Today is spent exploring the waterfalls, spring-fed streams and rugged sandstone escarpments of Litchfield National Park. Marvel at the intriguing magnetic and cathedral termite mounds and swim, hike and explore Florence and Wangi Falls. Discover the many rock holes and cascading waterfalls of Buley Rockhole before our early evening arrival back in Darwin. (B,L)

Note this package can be taken with 1 night Darwin and 2 nights Alice Springs OR 2 nights Darwin and 1 night Alice Springs in between tours. See departure days for more information.
  • Day 4 Darwin to Katherine (via Nitmiluk National Park)
You will be collected from your Darwin accommodation at approximately 6.00am and then our adventure through the ‘Territory’ to Alice Springs begins. The afternoon is spent at Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park which is owned by the Jawoyn Aboriginal people. Ancient sandstone has been carved away by the Katherine River to create a deep and picturesque gorge. You may like to take a boat cruise or paddle a canoe (seasonal) through the peaceful water (both optional and additional cost) before retiring to our campsite nearby. (L,D)
  • Day 5 Katherine to Banka Banka (via Mataranka)
A great start to the day, is a soak in the Mataranka Thermal Pools, a lush oasis fringed by paperbark trees. No trip to the ‘Territory’ is complete without a visit to the Daly Waters Pub, an important watering hole for explorers and drovers in days gone by and now a great spot for a cold beer, a bit of history and a ‘fair dinkum outback experience’! Our day winds to a close at historic Banka Banka Cattle Station where we camp for the night. (B,L,D)
  • Day 6 Banka Banka to Alice Springs
We pass through Tennant Creek and then further along the track are the Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu) which are a collection of gigantic granite boulders magically balanced on top of one another. Later in the day we cross the Tropic of Capricorn (only 20% of the Northern Territory lays south of this point) then a short time later we arrive into Alice Springs where two nights hostel accommodation is included. (B,L)
  • Day 7 Alice Springs
A day of leisure to either relax or explore the Red Centre township of Alice Springs. All activities and meals are at your own expense. Note this package can be taken with 1 night Darwin and 2 nights Alice Springs OR 2 nights Darwin and 1 night Alice Springs in between tours. See departure days for more information.
  • Day 8 Alice Springs to Uluru
It’s an early rise if you are joining in Alice Springs where you will make the journey to Ayers Rock where you will meet your fellow travellers joining there. On arrival to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, visit a camel farm and discover life atop one of the regions earliest forms of transport. This afternoon embark on an interpretive base walk of Uluru. Those choosing to climb will have the opportunity to do so, weather permitting. (Note: Uluru is a sacred site and the Anangu people ask visitors to respect their law and do not climb it). The Cultural Centre is impressive and well worth a visit before watching the ever changing colours of Uluru at sunset. After dinner, some stories and stargazing, it’s time for a good night’s rest at your private campsite before another active day tomorrow. (L,D)
  • Day 9 Uluru and Kata Tjuta to Kings Canyon
Your guide will wake you bright and early to experience a mesmerising Uluru sunrise, early mornings being such a magical time in the desert. Then it’s a short drive to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), an aboriginal word for “many heads”, to explore its domes of which there are 36 in total. Pull on your hiking boots and take the Valley of the Winds walk through creek beds, domes and beautiful wilderness. After lunch, it’s farewell to Uluru – Kata Tjuta National Park as you travel to Kings Creek Station to spend the night at your private camp. (B,L,D)
  • Day 10 Kings Canyon to Alice Springs
This morning you will enter the Watarrka (Kings Canyon) National Park, home of a mighty chasm with sheer red rock faces which soar over 100 metres above lush palm forests. The rim of Kings Canyon is a 6km round trip walk and you will visit the Amphitheatre, Lost City and tranquil Garden of Eden. After your final meal together, enjoy the journey back to Alice Springs arriving in the late afternoon. (B,L)

Real Aussie Says:
Before you go on tour you maybe thinking where am I going to sleep? What is this swag everyone who has travelled Australia goes on about? A swag is a bedroll made of canvas with a mattress inside. You can put your sleeping bag inside and zip it up and have a perfect view of the stars. It is super comfy and you are sung all year round inside. It means you can roll it out anywhere you choose and sleep in wonderful outback Australia. We get this question alot...how cold will it be around Uluru? Because you are camping outside its a great question to ask, but the answer is a little tricky. In winter temperatures can drop to 0ºC around Uluru (Ayers Rock) . In summer it is usually around 20ºC. Here at Real Aussie we recommend you please check weather forecasts before the tour so you can bring appropriate clothing for the conditions. It is a must do to bring a few layers of clothing over the winter period. In summer there can be a few flies. It is advised that you purchase a fly net if you don't like them. This tour is great for 18-39 year olds. However, we cater for everyone as long as you have a sense of adventure and a good level of fitness.
