Sydney to Barrington Tops
This morning you leave Sydney to start your East Coast Adventure tour by exploring the Hunter Valley wine area. You will do a tasting at one of Australia’s most famous vineyards. We then head to Barrington Tops National Park a World Heritage listed area. Your first night on tour is spent in a private lodge overlooking the Barrington River. You have the option to ride an inner tube down a scenic part of the river. Relax and enjoy the incredible views in the evening. (D)
Barrington Tops to Spot X Surf Camp
Up early this morning we head out on a bush walk. There is so much native Australia wildlife to spot including Kangaroos, plenty of birds and if you are lucky platypus. We head north with a visit a Koala hospital to learn about their efforts in preserving Koalas and what we can do to help, and then travel on to our waterfront accommodation at the Spot X Surf Camp, arriving in the early evening. Spot X Surf Camp to River Retreat
At the beginning of the day its up early to either take a surf lesson, try ocean rafting or walk along the beach. We then make a beeline for the Solitary Islands Marine Park where you have the option to go snorkeling or walk along the bay to spot sea eagles, pelicans and lots of other marine life. We then head into River Retreat – our exclusive tipi camp, on the edge of the park for the night. In the evening have a few drinks and/or play volleyball or petanque. We sleep in beds in a tipi or swags under the stars. In the winter months we stay in a historic country pub on the river. (B,D)
River Retreat to Byron Bay
This morning we stop in the picturesque town of Yamba to go for a walk and a swim at the Angourie blue pools (weather dependent). Your guide will give you an orientation drive as you head into the Byron Bay township and help you book any activities for the following day. Tonight you can explore the nightlife of hippy town Byron Bay. (B)
Free Day in Byron Bay
Our favourite thing in Byron Bay is to take a walk to the lighthouse, you can do this on your free day in Byron. Alternatively, you could try surfing, party or just relax on the beach.
Byron Bay (via Gold Coast & Brisbane) to Rainbow Beach
We say goodbye to Byron and head into Queensland, here we stop at one of Australia's best surf spots Snapper Rock. We then drive into the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Noosa before we continue onto Rainbow Beach for the night. At Rainbow Beach we take a walk up to Carlo Sand Blow for either the sunset or sunrise. (D)
Days 7 and 8
Rainbow Beach to Fraser Island
Get ready for two full days of exploring World Heritage Fraser Island. After a short 10-minute ferry ride from Rainbow Beach you start your adventure of four-wheel-driving on the roads of sand.
During your stay on Fraser you will have the chance to spot dingoes in the wild, swim in crystal clear freshwater lakes and swimming holes and explore the diverse landscapes in this unique habitat. (Day 7: L, D and Day 8: B, L ,D)
You will be well-looked after by the team of guides on Fraser Island. In the late afternoon of day eight your guide will return you to your Rainbow accommodation where you have dinner included.
Today you will go on a 3 hour dolphin watching kayak tour. This is the perfect chance to see Bottlenose dolphins, Humpback whales, turtles, manta rays, sting rays and a wide array of marine birdlife.
Rainbow Beach (via Noosa) to Country Campout
Meeting with your east coast guide again you will hop on the Loka bus and drive to Cooroy where we start our train journey. We travel to Rockhampton then get met by a local bus, which takes you to our remote farm stay for the night and a traditional swagman dinner around the campfire. We spend the night in an Aussie swag camping out under the stars. (D)
Country Campout/Emu Park to Airlie Beach
In the morning we take a walk around the property and visit a sacred Indigenous site at the base of Mount Wheeler. We then head to the beautiful, little coastal town of Emu Park. In the afternoon you can just relax around the resort pool, go on a turtle spotting walk (seasonal), play lawn bowls or visit a crocodile farm (both extra cost). We catch the train in the evening and travel overnight to Airlie Beach, sleeping on the train. We travel in a modern train with large reclining seats, a bar and a dining carriage. We get into a town called Proserpine in the morning then take a local bus in to Airlie Beach – the gateway to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands where you will have time to store your luggage before your Whitsundays day trip. Whitsunday Islands, snorkeling, reef and Whitehaven Beach
Today provides an exhilarating ride to world famous Whitehaven Beach, pristine snorkeling reefs and guided Whitsunday Island National Park walks.
Visit the Northern and Southern ends of Whitehaven Beach, spending at least two hours relaxing or exploring the 7km of white silica sand.
Walk to the Southern Whitehaven lookout with breathtaking views of Pentecost Island, join the guided walks to Hill Inlet lookout and snorkel for an hour enjoying the amazing hard and soft corals of the fringing reefs. (L)
You will be in the safe hands of the crew from Ocean Rafting today as you head out onto the Reef and sail the Whitsunday islands. Tonight is free to explore Airlie’s great nightlife and choice of restaurants.
Airlie Beach (via Townsville) to Magnetic Island
Today we take many modes of transport. First a local bus, then a train, then a ferry and another bus all to bring us to the tropical paradise of Magnetic Island. With nearly 50% of Magnetic Island being National Park you will find there is much to explore. You will have a guided walk around the Island, then its time to do more exploring or just relax by the pool. You will be staying at Bungalow Bay Koala Village YHA on Magnetic Island.
Free day Magnetic Island
Today you can just relax or visit the resort Wildlife park (extra cost). Your guide will be taking a rest, so you are free to explore the abundant beaches of Magnetic Island.
Magnetic Island to our Indigenous Camp
This morning we head back to the mainland on the ferry and then travel by train to Tully we arrive at lunchtime. We are met by local Aboriginal people and drive into the rainforest of Tully Gorge National Park. There is a traditional welcome in ‘Jirrbal’ language, we then help the Aboriginal guides prepare dinner. You can then head for a swim in the charming Tully River. After nightfall we go ‘spotlighting’ in the rainforest for native wildlife. The campsite here is remote but has permanent toilets and shelter areas. Before bed we all sit around and hear special dreamtime stories. (D)
Indigenous Camp to Cairns
After enjoying a big breakfast we head off for an interpretative walk into the national park. We then travel back to Tully to catch the train north, arriving into Cairns central train station at approximately 4.05pm, where your East Coast adventure comes to an end.(B)
Days 17 and 18
Two free days in Cairns
You have two days totally free to explore the tropical township of Cairns and its surrounds. We highly recommend taking a day snorkel/dive trip out to the World Heritage Great Barrier Reef. Some of the group will go skydiving, hot air ballooning or whitewater rafting? Any of these activities can be booked through us at Real Aussie Adventures before you reach Cairns. All activities and meals are at own expense. Accommodation tonight is in Cairns.
Fly to Alice Springs
Fly from Cairns to Alice Springs (own expense) the most convenient flight would be Qantas 1949 Accommodation in Alice Springs is included tonight.
Alice Springs to Kings Canyon
You will be picked up nice and early in Alice Springs at your accommodation and driven straight into Australia's outback. First stop is Kings Creek Station, where most of Australia’s live camels are exported from, and where you will camp for the night. Enjoy the hike around the rim of Watarrka (Kings Canyon) to access the lookout points and enjoy the views of the gorge, sandstone walls and the immense size of the canyon. On the walk you will get to see the renowned water hole known as the Garden of Eden. In the afternoon you can go for a swim in the pool or do one of the optional extra activities (Camel Safaris, Helicopter Flights and Quad Safaris) that are available at Kings Creek Station. (LD)
Kings Canyon to Uluru
This morning you will get your first up close and personal experience of Uluru. We do the base walk at Uluru and you will learn about the local Aboriginal people at the Cultural Centre. Lunch is prepared back at the campground and then you will have the rest of the day to enjoy the 'Rock'. (BLD)
Uluru and Kata Tjuta
You will be out of your swag early this morning to experience the world famous Uluru sunrise. We then take a hike at Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). Walk the majestic Valley of the Winds which cuts through the uniquely domed rock formations. After lunch, return to your campsite and relax in the afternoon before seeing another Uluru sunset. (BLD)
Uluru to Coober Pedy
As we drive this morning you will see striking desert landscapes including the sandstone formation known as the Breakaways. Arriving in the underground town of Coober Pedy you will find out the secret of the place where the world’s supply of beautiful opals come from. The landscape here is like you’ve landed on Mars. After a visit to Josephine’s Kangaroo Orphanage and dinner you will sleep underground like the locals do in bunkhouse accommodation. (BLD)
Coober Pedy to Wilmington
You get to experience the wonder of Coober Pedy during a tour of the town and an opal mine. You can also have a go at “noodling” for opals, visit an opal shop or any of the other underground attractions. In the afternoon continue to travel south to the Flinders Ranges where you’ll sleep among the red gum trees of Stony Creek Bush Camp. (BLD)
Wilmington to Adelaide
You will start the day with a hike up Dutchman’s Stern in the Flinders Ranges for grand views of the ocean and surrounding ranges and plains. We then have a well deserved visit to Clare Valley for a refreshing stop at a winery. Arriving in Adelaide this evening for our overnight stop. (BL)
Adelaide to Grampians National Park
Enjoy the Adelaide Hills this morning as we drive to Mt. Arapiles in the Grampians National Park. Take an afternoon hike to the bottom of MacKenzie Falls and enjoy the views from The Balconies lookout point. Keep your eyes out today for native wildlife in this area, you might see kangaroos come out to play. Tonight you will stay in the heart of the Grampians National Park in hostel accommodation. (LD)
Grampians National Park to Twelve Apostles
Today we take visit to Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre before doing some more hiking in the beautiful Grampians. Lunch is taken at the site of a dormant volcano, wetland, lake and home to lots of wildlife at Tower Hill Reserve. Then its time for a drive on the famous Great Ocean Road. Highlights this afternoon include the iconic Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs. Sunset today is a must see at the Twelve Apostles rock formation. Overnight you will stay in hostel accommodation on the Great Ocean Road. (BLD)
Great Ocean Road to Melbourne
Your amazing adventure tour comes to an end today, but not before a final day of exploring. We head to Otway National Park, taking a walk through some ancient rainforest. The Great Ocean Road has an amazing history which you will learn as you navigate the wonderful coastal road. As you cruise around a bend along the Great Ocean Road you will spot the idyllic beachside towns of Apollo Bay and Lorne. Anglesea, Bells Beach and Torquay all surfing beaches are you final views of this wonderful coast line. You will say goodbye to the tour in Melbourne at around 7pm. (BL)

You will travel with additional people and will have larger group sizes on those days. You will also travel with guides specific to those activities, rather than your Loka guide.
- As this is a tour package, your guide and group will change throughout your journey. You will travel on Loka transport with Loka guides. While you will have a fixed pre-arranged itinerary, other Loka customers on a more flexible pass will hop on and off throughout the trip.

Camping/twin/double/single customers will spend 4 nights in a private room (3 nights private facilities, 1 night shared facilities), 1 night in a cabin (shared facilities), 2 nights camping in swags and dome tents, and 1 night in a permanent safari tent (shared facilities)
- Twin/double fare can only be booked by two people traveling together.
