Tour itinerary - 12 Days Days
Arrive and Meet Your Group
We’ll pick you up from Colombo airport and take you to your beachfront hotel in Negombo. You’ll then have plenty of time to recover from your long flight, chill out and meet everyone in your group.
Tuk Tuk Ride and Local Markets
Discover the beachside town of Negombo by tuk-tuk and visit the famous local fish market, before heading north to the beautiful and sacred town of Dambulla. The next two nights we will stay in a unique and beautiful ‘glamping’ resort. (B)
Golden Temple Cave, Local Village and Sigiriya
An amazing and diverse day starting with the iconic Rock Cave Temple followed by an authentic local village experience. We’ll cruise by boat and learn how to make delicious Sri Lankan food, before experiencing a stunning view of the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress. (B and L)
Spice Garden, Temple of the Tooth and Kandy –
Today we’ll head south via a spice garden before arriving in the cultural centre of Sri Lanka – Kandy. We’ll visit the amazing Temple of the Tooth and wander around the beautiful lake and town of Kandy, before heading out for dinner and a few drinks. (B)
Tea Plantations, Waterfalls and train to Ella
We’ll continue south through stunning rolling green tea plantations, stopping to learn how to pick and make tea; Sri Lanka’s most famous export. We’ll make the short hike to a beautiful thundering waterfall before boarding the ‘world’s most scenic train’ to the town of Ella. Once we arrive we’ll head into town for dinner and a night out! (B)
Little Adam’s Peak and chill time in Ella
A free morning to relax and explore the beautiful little town of Ella, do some shopping or unwind with a traditional massage. We’ll then hike the stunning Little Adam’s Peak and enjoy the spectacular views. (B)
Nine Arches Bridge and National Park
This morning we’ll visit the famous Nine Arches Bridge before heading south to the amazing Udawalawe National Park where we’ll stay in unique riverside ‘glamping’ tents. (B, D)
A truly unforgettable day as we wake for sunrise and travel by jeep into the stunning Udawalawe National Park; one of the world’s best places to spot herds of wild free-roaming elephants, crocodiles and amazing bird life. That afternoon we’ll make our way to some beautiful beaches and finish the day watching the sunset and playing cricket with the locals. (B, D)
Learn to Surf and Beach time
After a relaxing morning on ‘Sri Lanka’s most beautiful beach,’ we’ll continue along the coast and stop for a private surf lesson on the super friendly and relaxed Welligama Beach, before heading out for a few drinks and beach party! (B)
Galle and Buddhist Monk Visit
Today we’ll explore the exotic world heritage town of Galle, a fascinating town of Dutch colonial buildings, ancient mosques, quirky cafes, boutiques and great shopping! After a tasty lunch we’ll have the truly special experience of visiting a Buddhist Monastery where we’ll spend time with the local monk students, learning their way of life and teaching them English. Beach time, Colombo and Farewell Dinner
A final morning to relax on the beach before we make our way back to the capital city, Colombo. We’ll check in to our funky boutique hotel and get ready to head out, explore the city and have our final dinner and party together! (B, D)

Your epic adventure comes to an end today. Your group leader will help organise your onward travel including airport transfers.

Important NotesThings you need to know about this tour
It’s best to arrive on the actual start date. There are no activities on the first day, so you can arrive at any time. If you do arrive early, we’ll still pick you up from the airport and will book you into our Negombo hotel from the day you arrive. Extra nights will be approx. £30 / $60 AUD per night for a double/twin room and can be paid on arrival.
Sri Lanka Experience finishes in Colombo. You can choose to stay on longer in Colombo, continue your travels in Sri Lanka or make your way back to the airport. The airport is approx. 45 minutes drive from your Colombo accommodation and a transfer costs approx. £20 / $40. Your Group Leader can organise this transfer for you and will ensure you’re comfortable with all parts of your onward travel.
Most nationalities require a visa or ETA (electronic travel authority) to enter Sri Lanka. This can generally be done online at http://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/ and costs approx $ 35USD. If you’re unsure of your visa requirements or need any help just contact us.
Travel Insurance for Sri Lanka is compulsory to join Sri Lanka Experience. Your Group Leader will ask to see proof of your cover before your trip begins. You can organise a quote and policy for yourself here.
